Introduction: Penmore House self catering is situated in the north of the Isle of Mull. The landscape at sea level is rocky, with many white sandy beaches. Inland is green and fertile farmland, and as you climb higher, the landscape becomes dominated by green hills of bracken and mountains, covered in white grass and heather.
The road network around Mull offers endless panoramic views of mountains, sea lochs and seascapes.
Within a 10 minute walk of Penmore, you arrive at the harbour of Croig, where visitors to Penmore can keep a boat. Explore a little further, and you will discover several small, sheltered white sandy beaches. A 10 minute car drive will take you to Calgary beach, or in the opposite direction, the village of Dervaig , which has a shop, post office, and a pub. There are also several eating places within a 10 minute drive.

The roads around Calgary bay are twisty and single track; however, they offer fresh, spectacular sea views around every bend.
To the right is Quinish Point. Ardnamurchan Point and the lighthouse can be seen on the mainland. Ardnamurchan Point is the most westerly point on the British Isles mainland.
In the distance are the isles of Rum, Muck, Eigg and Skye.
The wee beach at Eilean Baan has soft sinking sand. It is in a sheltered spot, protected by rocks and is an easy walk from Penmore.

For walkers, Aros Park, which is situated on the edge of Tobermory, offers many sheltered woodland trails around a freshwater loch. The walks also offer views across the bay to Tobermory.
More serious adventurers can climb Ben More; meaning ‘big hill’, it is 3 hours up and 2 hours down. The highest of Mull ’s mountains, at 966 metres, it is the island’s only Munro, and, typically, the last that Munro himself climbed – if you’re into that sort of thing. The climb begins at sea level, so is a long haul to the top, although relatively easy. Your efforts are rewarded on a clear day by the most wonderful views across the island, and a smug smile.
